November 15, 2016 Consider the Hat
While millinery has traditionally held a place in wedding ceremonies, the hat has largely gone forgotten. But consider the hat. A well crafted hat paired with timeless design will last a lifetime. Hats are a wonderfully mysterious accessory and serve a function as well as look damn cool. Hats are perhaps what weddings have been lacking, as the perfect accessory for both man and wife, keeping direct sunlight out of eyes everywhere. And lest we forget, the true power of a hat lies in it's effectiveness to mask a bad hair day. Here are our picks for finding your perfect, everyday hat that might also be the perfect accessory to complete your wedding day look.
Super Duper - Super Duper was conceived by a fashionable trio of native Italians who have embraced Italy’s deep fashion history to create their millinery line. Each with a unique design background, this trio devoted themselves to learning the tools and techniques of hat-making passed down from an older generation of craftsmen. Super Duper handmakes all their hats in a horse stable-turned-studio on the outskirts of Florence. If you need any hat styling inspo, check out Super Duper’s insta feed and note the fashionable trio's sartorial choices — they each seem to have perfected the art of hat-wearing in their own way.
Janessa Leone - LA-based cool lady, Janessa makes hats for the every women and believes that if you feel good in a hat, you look good in a hat. A chance encounter with a beautiful hat at a Parisian vintage shop left Janessa with a want to create beautiful and elegant headwear. The hat collection started out as a part-time project for Janessa and very quickly morphed into a full-time, large scale operation, touching over 36 hands before making it’s way to your head. We love this brand and see her straw hats collection pairing sublimely with our gowns.
Larose - This Parisian brand makes hats with the philosophy that “hats must be classic and understated, never ostentatious”. Each hat is handmade in France with minimal branding and exudes real je ne sais quoi. Just kidding, we do, they exude real Parisian chicness. Known for their collaborations with other cool kids like Jacquemus and David Umemoto, Larose has no problem staying relevant and contemporary in today’s fast-moving fashion world.
Littledoe - Chase Cohl grew up in music venues as the daughter of legendary Canadian concert promoter and Rolling Stones’ Tour Manager, Michael Cohl. So naturally, Littledoe is a little bit rock n’ roll. When not designing her line of accessories, Chase can be found song-writing or playing her guitar. Her relaxed aesthetic and low-key luxe vibes have drawn the likes of Taylor Swift, M.I.A and Shakira and can be found in major US department stores like Barneys. We’d pair these hats with any of our sister brand, Laudae gowns for an enviable wedding day look.
Laura Apsit Livens - We first discovered this brand while scrolling through one of our fav blogs, Miss Moss and were totally mesmerized by the whimsical design and awesome use of colour. Based in Mayfair, London, Laura Apsit Livens believes that millinery deserves a place in couture and shouldn’t be forgotten. With inspiration drawn from Matisse to Mexican doorways we're ready to take home the entire “Puerta” collection.
