  • February 20, 2018 Alyssa + Derek

We're suckers for winter weddings and boy, did Alyssa and Derek do it right.
Kudos to the beautiful couple for braving the November weather for these stun-ning portraits.

How did you find your dress?
"I live in Vancouver, so Truvelle was always on my radar. For our entire wedding we tried our best to support only local vendors and artists, but of course, I also adored the romance and whimsy of the Truvelle brand. I booked an appointment at the flagship downtown and tried on a couple dresses, but the moment I put the Cambie on my body I knew it was the one. I was planning a winter wedding, so I was already daydreaming of a cap sleeve and some sparkle."Best moments from the day?
"We decided not to do a first look, so I'd have to say the single best moment of the day was seeing each other for the first time as I was walking down the aisle. During our whole ceremony I don't think we noticed anyone in the room but each other, it was really intimate and beautiful. Second moment would have to be the father/ daughter dance — I had no idea how special that moment would be until it happened."
    About the location?
"We got married in Kelowna, BC on November 4, 2017. The ceremony was at the Benvoulin Heritage Church, originally built as a working church in 1892, but now is a protected heritage site. The reception was at the Laurel Packinghouse, also a heritage site, that was built in 1917 as a fruit packinghouse. Both venues are non profits, so we were really happy to find options where our money would have a positive impact on the community we grew up in."Advice for brides?
    1. Weddings are expensive, so really decide on what matters to you, and just go for it. If you can't afford it all, then really invest in the parts that make your heart skip and let go of the elements that don't matter as much to you.
    2. Planning an off season wedding can be a lot more chill— vendors are available, prices are lower and you can relax a bit more in the planning process knowing you aren't competing as much with other brides.
    3. Remember you can make an impact with all that money you are about to spend! Think about shopping and supporting local, as well as finding ways to be more sustainable :)
